Throughout this whole journey my work, my colleagues, my supervisors, my managers, my laptop, my headphones and my specially appointed work coffee mug have been nothing but supportive and patient and cheering me along the way🥰

It has been a blessing not to have to worry about my work, and my next salary and generally wonder what would happen regarding my employment. Luckily I live in a country where sick leave is ironclad and I’m very well protected, but I also work for a company that did all the paperwork for me, arranged the pesky details and made sure to undertake all the stressful tasks that come with a situation like mine and waited for me. I am very grateful 😁

I started my reintegration once I knew that I was in remission, working a few hours for a day or two and slowly building up, all the while working from home and video-zooming with my team. I live an hour’s drive (with no traffic) from the office, so anyway I choose to not go often (“often” being the subtle word for “never” 🤭) since we are allowed to choose.

But a screen has yet to replace hugs, so I marked the calendar and made the plan to wake up at torture o’clock and drive to the office and work a full shift and drive back. And I did🥳

I survived the drive (I’ve been driving certain distances and not overdoing it the last few months, but I’ve been building that up too) and enjoyed my shift and felt the excitement of seeing my workstation after so long😄

And I got rewarded with tight hugs and warm smiles and awesome coffee and reconnected and recharged in love and support from a bunch of people I have missed and have wanted to see❤️

To those of you who are starting or are in the thick of it, you will get there and it will feel very rewarding. And you won’t get much work done because you’ll be too busy chatting and hugging everyone…😅

But for a day, that’s OK 😉
