My husband during my IBC journey

This post is dedicated to none other than the love of my life, my soulmate, my other half, my sugar plum, my tall dark handsome (drunk) stranger, my fated one, the one I was destined for, my honey bunny, the light of life, my rock (or in this case, my tall tree?), the one made just for me, my happily every after, my husband, my partner in life, my Knight in shining armour… what else…?

All the above and more…

*drumroll*

Martien

This journey has been hard on me, but Martien is the one that has had to watch. There is nothing more petrifying and frustrating, than watching the person you love go through something awful and all you can do is keep an eye on them and try and make them comfortable and rely on the fact that they are a stubborn Greek donkey and then see that willpower falter.

Martien and I have always done everything together, from day one. Everything clicked into a partnership, balancing each other out in everything and being a team. And we always communicate everything to each other and sort it out. We love each other and we are complete.

And now there is an imbalance, where I am drained of energy and I’m draining his and he let’s me graciously.

I want to get over this chapter as soon as possible (duh). But I know this chapter will be a long one, especially in terms of putting me back together. So for now I’m aiming for it to be just one chapter and not appear again in our book. To make room for our next chapters together.

I dream of the adventures we’ll go on, the things we will do as a family, once I’m fit again.

We’ve been 10 years together. We got married last February. I teased him that this was one way to test the “in sickness and in health” bit of our first year of marriage and get it over with. And I have a good feeling that there won’t be anymore tests like this. That we will live a long happy healthy life together, just like we said to each other the night we met:

“I can see myself having a beautiful life with you”

“Me too.”

“Let’s go for it then!”

“Cool!”

And no, we weren’t drunk. We were very much sober at that moment. And as far as I’m concerned, that’s the moment I married him❤️
