Scan fun ride experience #5

The heart scan💟

There is nothing special here to add, it’s similar to the CT scan, again with an infusion before hand and the usual lying down on a bed and being put through a spinning donut🍩

What IS interesting is that when I went for my heart scan, I didn’t know that I was going for a heart scan🙃 I thought it was just a regular one…

Chemo brain. It’s a fact. Look it up.

Whenever you go for a scan, the radiologists always ask you if you are familiar with the procedure and if it’s your first time, they explain the steps and what will happen. This is all fine, but when they asked me “are you familiar with the heart scan” and I responded “heart scan?” they both looked worried and double checked in the system that I was in the right place and that they were indeed about to inject stuff into the right person. Once they were sure, they patiently explained that they would check that everything is OK with my heart and aorta, since one of the side effects of chemo is heart problems and it’s good to know if there are any issues before hand.

Fine by me👍

However, as we all know, when someone says to you “try and relax”, you get at least an eye twitch🤪

So when someone is about to monitor and scan your heart and tells you to “be as relaxed as possible, because if you are too nervous, the results might be wrong”, especially when you already weren’t expecting a heart scan, let me tell you, you ain’t achieving zen anytime soon🥴

I could hear my heartbeat in my ears the whole time, which made it pump faster, I’m pretty sure!

However, this scan took longer and eventually I did achieve it seems a certain calmness, because it turned out fine. I was prescribed some heart pills that I only need to take if my blood pressure is high before a chemo round (because they check that before every chemo as well) and I have yet to use them😏

2 out of 5 stars: one because I learned to pay closer attention to what my oncologist plans for me and the other because, well, the surprised faces of the radiologists when I confessed that I had no idea what I was doing there, was pretty amusing😁

Pic of my other cool self explanatory t shirt!🤭
