Chemo uncovered #15

Dealing with the aftermath

It’s been 6 weeks since my last chemo and I’m on my way to (just) immunotherapy no.2 💪

Do I still feel it? Of course, but I’m working on flushing it out. Slowly. But steadily😎

Taste buds are coming back: once I hit week 5, tiny miracles started to happen in my mouth (that’s what she said😁) My energy is much better. My walks last longer and I don’t pass out after them. My neuropathy is still going strong, but I’m used to that torture by now🥲 My hair is getting more fuzzy and I’m very curious to see if I’ll get them famous chemo curls!👩🏻‍🦱

One of the first things that a lot of people worry about when starting chemotherapy is the hair loss. Maybe because I’m so sure of my gorgeous looks, I wasn’t bothered at all about this (I think it was the fact that at the time we were going through a heatwave and I welcomed the shave, but let’s go with me being super self confident). Still I’m not fussed. I know it will come back and I look forward to it. But I also am relaxed about it (and a bit cold, it’s freezing now!) and I wish I was like this with certain other symptoms, but hey, I’ve earned the right to be annoyed with something, so let me be🤷🏻‍♀️

But I do want to point out, especially for those starting any sort of treatment, ordeal or just hard times, or have reached halfway and feel that there is no end in sight, it gets easier. And you will get there. Just be kind to yourself and patient with yourself. And do forgive yourself for the days you lose hope for a while and feel that quiting is the only way. Have those moments❤️
And know that those moments don’t define how your life is or how it’s going to be. Rest and give yourself a hug. And then ask for a hug from someone else (preferably someone you know, asking strangers for hugs might be weird unless you are holding a “free hugs” sign outside a shop or something). And hold that hug for as long as you need. Make it awkwardly long. It’ll be fun!😁

Here is a virtual hug from me for whoever needs it, whenever you need it. It’s awkward and it’s long and it can last🥰

That’s what she said😄
