-C.T. stands for Computed Tomography and this machine looks like a giant donut. Less claustrophobic than the MRI, but I lie on my back which is uncomfortable for me, if for too long. In my case I have to have my arms placed above my head, get the pics, then place them by my sides and get more pics. So, I’m more grumpy with this scan… (the scan I have to do more often…🙄)

Here they check specifically the chest area, circling around to make sure to catch every tinie tiny bit. I lie on the bed and they place cushions under my head and knees and then they guide me through the steps each time: I will hear an automated voice via a speaker which will tell me to take in a deep breath and then to let it out. Also, compared to the other scans, I don’t get the iodine solution pumped into me before, but they prepare the needle and tube as I’m lying down. Once I’m in the donut, they pump it in.

And that is the magic moment when I’ve been warned that I will get a funny burning taste in my mouth, plus my privates will fire up (nope, not in the good way) and I will feel as if I’ve peed myself. It just gets better, right?🤪 Thankfully the first time the doctor told me this, they advised to count to 60 and it’s over. And that has been accurate for all the following CT scans I’ve had.

Again, tumors shine bright like diamonds here and it’s a little more specific and targeted. Which is great, since you can measure the tumors and follow up with next steps (in situations where someone will go for radiation for example) and this is the scan that I will be having for the rest of my life to keep me in check. Unless they come up with one of those cool machines they have at the airport (why not? Faster, simpler, don’t need to get half naked or fight with my wired bra under my t-shirt – although I’ve decided to go braless and let the ladies hang for all the next scans… because: happiness above all!)☺️

So, until then, flaming genitalia à la minute it is…🔥
