Around the time I was diagnosed, amongst all the last-minute scans and tests and appointments, there was a prescheduled dentist appointment🦷 The one which we booked 6 months prior🫠
My oncologist advised me to inform my dentist that I would be starting chemo, to alert them of any side effects I would have concerning my mouth hygiene. My dentist got me papers to fill out, ask me to call for anything and mentioned that mouth sores are very common with chemo and that there was a good chance, with this aggressive treatment, that I would need fillings later on☹️
And we scheduled the appointment for 6 months ahead as we always do. And I prepared myself mentally😓
Now, I’ve complained about my dead taste buds a lot in my posts, but apart from that, I got really lucky: I got no mouth sores and at most my teeth and gums would hurt when I brushed them or rinsed with very cold water. I always took pride in my teeth and gums. I have no fillings and I always get praised for their great condition by all the dentists I’ve had. I was preparing to sacrifice all this😢
And the next dentist appointment happened last week, now that I’m almost 3 months out of chemo, in remission and healthier every week I put between me and that last chemo infusion.
And my dentist checked me and happily announced that all looks good and healthy and no difference from how everything was 6 months ago. And she took pictures to be sure. No holes and no issues in my pearly whites😁
Now I’m grinning like Bruce the shark (originally from Jaws, now finally with favourable fame thanks to Nemo) and biting into food (yes, also sugary stuff – because sugar didn’t cause my cancer – this is a post for another day🙃) and thankful that my body yet again is showing me that it’s strong, tough, stubborn and is not be messed around with💪🥰
